A long weekend in Guinea

Recently I took a long weekend with some of my friends and coworkers to Dalaba across the border in Guinea.  Here are some photos from our trip.

Our first taxi, sugarbeets, broke down after less than an hour of our 12+hour ride.  Note the makeshift gas tank on top of the car!
After the ordeal of finding another taxi we had to wait in line for about an hour to get gas before we could continue our journey. Enjoyed some nice cold drinks while we waited.

Loved this little kid sitting on the motorbike beside us!

19 hours after leaving Foya, we made it to Dalaba.  We found a little hotel where we could sleep for what was left of the night.  The next morning, we went on a walk and found a nice hotel with a beautiful patio and view in the back. We decided to move over there for the next night.  This is the tree in the middle of the patio, but it was too foggy the morning I took the picture to see the view.

After changing hotels, we walked into the small town and had some egg sandwiches for breakfast.  Then we set off to find the waterfalls!  This was the first waterfall we visited.  It was pretty awesome.

One of our many fun pictures at the base of the waterfall.

On day two way made our way to park where there was supposed to be a nice lake and gardens with strawberries.  Apparently since the guidebook was written, this has not been cared for.  The lake was a little swamp and no strawberries, but it was a nice walk through a forest and fields, didn't feel like Africa at all.  One of the gardners also handed me this branch and motioned for me to smell it, turns out it was cinnamon.  Never seen a cinnamon plant before, pretty cool, even if it wasn't strawberries:)  After the gardens we went to this other waterfall that has a natural rock bridge crossing.

This waterfall was also beautiful.  We walked up and down and all around it for a little while, enjoyed the view from across the way, and relaxed until our taxi driver got antsy and we had to leave.

After the waterfall it was time to make our way back to Foya.  This is the poinsettia picture I took as we were leaving our Dalaba hotel.  I thought it was a fitting picture to take December 1st! Another loooong drive back, with a moody taxi driver this time.  But at least no breakdowns! Made it back in time to have a relaxing Sunday afternoon before starting another week.  All in all it was a short but good break from work.
